Effect: When your opponent misses a goal opportunity you get the chance of a counterattack. Only one team will get this advantage and that is the team that doesn’t dominate the midfield. If you dominate the midfield you will only experience the disadvantages of the tactic.

If a counterattacking team dominates the midfield in the first half it will only experience the disadvantages. But if the team looses domination of the midfield in the second half the positive effects of counterattacking will be triggered.

When using counterattacking the optimal solution is to get as close to 50% possesion as possible without actually going over.

There is no limit to how many counterattack chances a team can have and the chance of getting them are more or less constant throughout the game. Depending on the tactical skill and how many events the team has had earlier in the game the chance of getting counterattack chances can adjust a bit.

Eventhough you don’t use the counterattack tactic you can still have counterattack chances. These are called counter-SE/non-tactical counter attacks.

Disadvantages: The counterattacking team looses 7% midfield rating.

Important skills: Your ability to counterattack dependes on the accumulated passing and defending skills of your defenders. Passing is twice as important as defending in the calculation of your counterattack rating. Experience has an influence too.

It goes for all tactics that the higher your league level, the more difficult it is to achieve a good effect of your tactic.
